5.2.18. Turbocharger

GENERAL INFORMATION

The turbocharger is established on all diesel engines. It increases engine capacity due to increase in pressure in an inlet collector above atmospheric.

The drive of a turbocharger is carried out by exhaust gases. Exhaust gas, passing through a turbocharger, accelerates to high turns the turbine which is located on a shaft on which other end the compressor is installed. The compressor, rotating in own casing, compresses air on the way to an inlet collector.

Between a turbocharger and a final collector compressed air passes through the refrigerator. It is the "air-air" heat exchanger installed before a radiator and cooled by counter air and electric fans of a radiator. The problem of the refrigerator consists in lowering the air temperature which increased at air compression by the compressor.

Prevention

The turbocharger works at extremely high speeds and temperatures. Do not use a turbocharger at the removed any part or a hose. The foreign particles getting on the rotating blades can damage a turbocharger.

Do not increase engine turns at once after start, especially on the cold engine. It is necessary to wait at least several seconds for ensuring normal circulation of oil.

Give the chance to the engine to work in the idling mode within several minutes before switching off after operation of the engine on high turns.

For lubricant of the engine use only oil of the recommended quality.
