XU SERIES ENGINE

On some engines the top and lower halves of bearings had identical thickness.
On engines of later releases the working gap of bearings was considerably reduced and in order that this condition was satisfied, apply 4 various inserts which are designated by a color tag at an end face. Color of a tag designates insert thickness. The top insert on all bearings has the identical size, and the working gap is regulated by installation of the lower insert of the required thickness.
Engines 1.6 liters
On later engines new inserts can be chosen, using signs on the block of cylinders. In the absence of tags inserts can be picked up only by measurement of a working gap. Tags on the block of cylinders are on the left side of the block, and a crankshaft tag – at a crankshaft crossing point end face. These tags can be used for the choice of an insert of the required thickness as follows.
On the crankshaft and the block of cylinders there are two lines of identification: shaped a code which is used by Peugeot by production, and a row from five designations. The first designation in the sequence belongs to the size of number of the first insert. The last designation in the sequence (which is followed by an arrow) treat the size of number of the fifth insert.
Define number of designation from a certain neck of the crankshaft and an opening of the bearing of the block of cylinders.
Nomogram of the choice of inserts
On the top axis of the nomogram note designation of the crankshaft and through this point draw a vertical line. On the left vertical axis of the nomogram note designation of the block of cylinders and through this point draw a horizontal line. The point of intersection of lines specifies the insert size for providing the required gap.
For example, the nomogram shows that the crankshaft specifies 6 and the block of cylinders indicates N, the point of intersection within red area defines that red (Class D) the most suitable for receiving the required gap.
Repeat this operation on the choice of inserts for other radical necks of the crankshaft.
