8.1.7. Speedometer drive sensor
GENERAL INFORMATION

The speedometer drive sensor installed on the ML5T transmission

Removal
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift a forward part of the car and record on supports. Remove a mudguard from under the engine. The sensor of the drive of a speedometer is located on a back part of a case of the transmission near the internal end of the right power shaft. Depending on model the drive of a speedometer can be carried out by a cable or an electric way.
2. On models with the hummock drive of a speedometer take a pin and remove a speedometer drive cable. On models with the electric drive of a speedometer disconnect the electric socket.
3. Unscrew a fastening bolt together with the heat-shielding screen (where is available).
4. Remove the sensor of the drive of a speedometer or the block of gear wheels of the drive of a speedometer from a transmission case together with a sealing ring of round section.
5. If necessary the gear wheel can be taken from the case and after that it is possible to replace a sealing ring in the top part of the case. Check a gear wheel for wear and if necessary replace.
6. If the conducted gear wheel is worn-out or damaged, it is necessary to investigate the leading gear wheel in a transmission case.
7. For removal of the leading gear wheel of the drive of a speedometer on the BE3 transmission remove the right power shaft from the transmission. Unscrew three bolts of fastening.
8. Then remove the speedometer drive case together with a sealing ring of round section. Remove the leading gear wheel from differential together with adjusting laying.

Installation
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Establish adjusting laying on differential, then the leading gear wheel of the drive of a speedometer, combining at the same time adjusting ledges (are specified by shooters). Establish a new sealing ring of round section on a back part of the case of the drive of a speedometer, then install the case into place and screw bolts. Establish a power shaft.
2. Grease working edges of a sealing ring and the conducted shaft of a gear wheel and install a gear wheel in the speedometer drive case.
3. Install a new sealing ring of round section on the speedometer drive case. Install assembly on the transmission.
4. Install the thermofilter and fix by a bolt.
5. On models with the electric drive of a speedometer connect the electric socket. On models with the hummock drive of a speedometer connect a speedometer drive cable.
6. Establish a mudguard under the engine and lower the car.
